A weekly housing-rules and mortgage-rate digest in one Python file

If you follow the property market, you know the routine: a ministry announces a change to energy-performance rules, a central bank publishes a lending survey, and you find out three weeks later. Checking ten websites by hand is not a habit anyone keeps.

I wrote a Hermes skill, real-estate-regulation-watch, that does the boring part. It reads public RSS feeds, keeps only the items matching housing and credit keywords (accents ignored), remembers what it already showed you in a small JSON file, and prints a Markdown digest where every line ends with its source URL.

It also pulls the monthly cost of borrowing for French home loans from the ECB open data API. No API key, only the Python standard library.

python3 scripts/regwatch.py --days 7 --rates 3 --state ~/.regwatch_state.json
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The output lists the latest three monthly rates with the change from the previous month, then the matching news per source. Run it again and already-reported items disappear.

What it does not do: it gives no legal or tax advice, and the keyword filter is blunt, so a few false positives slip through. Some official sites (Legifrance, Banque de France) refused automated requests when I tried, so they are not included; you can add any feed with --feed NAME=URL.

The skill includes an offline --selftest, and I ran it plus a live check before publishing.
