Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady Submission 🦥

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady.

🦥 What I Built

Every developer and knowledge worker knows the subtle dread of "Digital Chore Fatigue":

  • The Downloads/ and Desktop folders littered with files like WhatsApp Image 2026-10-22 at 22.25.07.jpeg, Screenshot 2026-10-18 at 4.23.11 PM.png, statement_oct_v2 (1).pdf, and temp_hook.ts.
  • The 40 unread Slack messages debating database indexing when all you need to know is what the team agreed on.
  • The 5:00 PM mental fog of turning cryptic git log commits into an executive-ready daily standup summary.
  • The midnight trance of staring blankly into the fridge hoping a meal will assemble itself.

In honor of International Sloth Day and DEV’s mascot Sloan the Sloth, I built SloanDesk: an ambient, privacy-first open-source AI autopilot that clears your daily digital chores so you can stay in maximum sloth mode.

Instead of demanding more screen time, prompting, or API keys, SloanDesk resolves tedious tasks with zero cloud dependencies:

  1. Desktop & Receipt Declutterer: Drag and drop messy files, mobile camera photos, invoices, or code snippets. Sloan extracts metadata, normalizes names into clean ISO 8601 archive standards, organizes them into folders, offers individual renamed downloads, and exports a structured ZIP complete with an automated Markdown audit manifest.
  2. Chat & Inbox TL;DR: Paste winding Slack/Discord threads or email chains. Sloan condenses them into a 2-sentence summary, extracts actionable items, and generates 1-click polite canned replies.
  3. Standup & Changelog Scribe: Paste raw git log commits or terminal history. Sloan generates a bulletproof Slack standup update and a semantic KeepAChangelog formatted entry.
  4. Midnight Fridge Chef: Dump in whatever random items are currently in your fridge. Sloan crafts a 5-minute zero-prep recipe with zero extra dishes.
  5. Procedural Lo-Fi Soundscape: Built-in procedural ambient rain, river, and vinyl crackle synthesized directly in real time via the Web Audio API—100% offline with zero external audio assets.
