EyeZen v1.1.0: Smarter Breaks, Safer Profiles, and More Reliable Local Settings
EyeZen v1.1.0 is now available!
EyeZen is an open-source, local-first desktop application built with Rust, Tauri 2, React and TypeScript. The goal is to bring workspace customization, comfort preferences, profiles and break routines together in one application without requiring a cloud account.
The first stable release established the foundation. Version 1.1.0 focuses on making that foundation more reliable.
1. Better Break Routines
One of the most noticeable additions is the optional timed break prompt.
Users can start an in-app pause, finish it early or dismiss the prompt.
The reminder system also reevaluates due reminders after the application regains focus or the computer wakes, instead of relying exclusively on uninterrupted timer execution.
The reminder loop still depends on the running application and cannot guarantee notifications after it has been quit.
2. More Reliable Workspace Profiles
EyeZen supports different profiles for different working preferences.
In v1.1.0, profile switching and deletion are more reliable. When the active profile is deleted, the replacement profile's applicable settings are now correctly activated.
Profile name editing also includes safer validation and editing behavior.
These improvements help reduce unexpected behavior when users customize their workspace.
3. Stronger Local Configuration Handling
Privacy-friendly applications still need dependable local storage.
This release introduces stricter validation of imported settings and profiles, along with improvements to configuration recovery.
Interrupted Windows settings-file replacements now have additional recovery handling, and configuration reads are bounded.
The saved settings schema remains compatible with v1.0.0.
4. Testing and Cross-Platform Builds
The release expands automated test coverage around profiles, validation, scheduling and recovery.
EyeZen's release workflow also produces installer packages for:
- Windows x64 (MSI)
- macOS Apple Silicon (DMG)
- Linux x86_64 (DEB and RPM)
These builds are unsigned, and automated testing does not replace validation on real devices.
5. Being Accurate About Display Support
EyeZen currently provides application themes, saved comfort preferences, workspace profiles and break routines.
It does not yet modify hardware monitor brightness, native color temperature, Windows Night Light, macOS Night Shift or ICC calibration.
I believe clearly communicating these limitations is important. Hardware-level integrations deserve proper platform-specific implementations and testing.
What's Next?
Future development can explore native display adapters, wider hardware support, improved theme customization and more advanced productivity routines.
As always, feedback from real users and contributors will help shape those priorities.
