If you have ever watched an AI VTuber like Neuro-sama and thought "I want to make one of my own," this article is for you.
AI VTubers (also called AITubers) are starting to feel within reach for individual creators. I have built several products to lower the barrier to entry, and in this article I want to use them to sort out four ways to get started, organized by level (as of May 2026).
From "I just want to try it out" to "I want to develop a completely original AITuber," pick the starting point that fits you best.
1. For people who just want to try it: Chrome on AITuber
If you first want to experience "what is an AITuber, anyway?", I recommend Chrome on AITuber.
It is a web app you can start just by opening it in Google Chrome, and you can get your first AITuber experience in these two steps.
- Chat with an AI character
- Use OBS to do a test stream on YouTube or Twitch
I think this makes a good first step into AITuber.

2. For people who want to stream more seriously: AITuber OnAir
If you find yourself thinking "that was fun to play with, now I want to stream as an AITuber a bit more seriously," give AITuber OnAir a try.
- It supports a wide range of LLMs and TTS, so you can set it up with the ones you like
- You can set up the avatar you like, using VRM, PNGTuber, still images, GIF images, and more
- Your conversation history builds up after each stream, and you can use it to grow your AI character

3. For people who want to quickly build their own AITuber
If you are thinking "I want to use Claude Code or Codex to quickly try out an AITuber of my own," I have prepared a site that lets you get started with AITuber development easily. Together with an AI agent, you can set up your own AITuber development environment.
🔗 Start AITuber with AI Agent
If you would rather "build it by hand quickly instead of using an AI agent," the AITuber OnAir starter CLI is handy. You can quickly set up whichever you want from three types of AITuber apps: VRM, PNGTuber, and Live2D.
4. For people who want to develop something fully original: AITuber OnAir Core
For people who think "templates are nice, but I want to move forward with fully original AITuber development," there is a set of TypeScript libraries starting with AITuber OnAir Core.
The common processing for AITuber is packaged as libraries, so by combining them I think you can start original AITuber development from scratch.
AITuber OnAir Core bundles the processing needed for an AITuber system into a single library, and using it you can easily create an original AITuber app.
But if you think "I want to build my own response system from a deeper, more internal level!", you can achieve that by using more finely separated libraries like the following.
These are libraries at the LLM and TTS level, so you can offload just the API integration parts to the libraries while developing an AITuber system with a stronger original character.
For those who have just started with AITuber
If it is your first time, start with "Chrome on AITuber." After that, the flow into "AITuber OnAir" is what I recommend.
If you are unsure, I recommend trying number 1, Chrome on AITuber, first. Please go ahead and start your AITuber development from your favorite starting point.
The AI VTuber space is still young, and the tools are getting easier every month. Whatever sparked your interest, whether it was Neuro-sama or something else, I hope you find your own starting point here.
