AI Career Mentor for Students
Problem Statement
Engineering students, especially freshers, struggle to enter the job market — even internships require a resume, and many students don't know how to build one properly. Beyond that, students often don't know which jobs or roles actually fit their current skill level, so they either apply randomly or don't apply at all. Social media platforms like LinkedIn are flooded with generic advice, unrelated posts, and conflicting opinions, making it hard for a student to find guidance that is actually relevant to their resume and their situation.
Who It Affects
First-time job seekers and interns — mainly engineering students who have some technical skills but no clear sense of how those skills map to real job roles, and often no resume ready to apply with.
Why Existing Solutions Fail
Career counselors are expensive or unavailable to most students.
Generic "top 10 skills" articles don't look at the student's actual resume or skill level.
Social media advice is overwhelming, contradictory, and not personalized.
Students are rarely told specifically what's missing between where they are and where they want to be.
Our Approach
An AI Career Mentor that works whether a student has a resume or not. If they do, they upload it and the platform extracts their profile automatically. If they don't, a short guided form builds a working profile for them. Either way, the student's profile is combined with their target job role, and AI analyzes the gap between where they are and where they need to be.
The platform then generates, specific to that student:
A skill-gap analysis comparing their current profile to the target role.
A personalized learning roadmap to close that gap.
A week-by-week study plan they can actually follow.
Likely interview questions for that specific role, based on their profile.
This replaces generic, one-size-fits-all career advice with guidance built from the student's real background — giving every student, regardless of access to mentors or paid counseling, a clear and personal next step.
AI Methods Used
Resume text is extracted programmatically (or collected via a guided form for students without a resume). This structured profile, along with the student's target role, is passed to a large language model (LLM) through a carefully designed prompt pipeline that performs the skill-gap comparison and generates the roadmap, study plan, and interview questions as structured output — making AI reasoning the core engine of the solution rather than a decorative chatbot layer.

AI Career Mentor for Students
An AI-powered career mentor built for the Idea2Impact 2026 Hackathon (Theme: Sustainability & Social Impact).
Problem
Engineering students, especially freshers, struggle to enter the job market. Many don't know how to build a resume, don't know which jobs fit their skill level, and get overwhelmed by generic advice on social media.
Solution
Students either upload their resume (PDF) or fill a short guided form. The AI (Google Gemini) then generates:
- A skill-gap analysis for their target role
- A personalized learning roadmap
- A 4-week study plan
- Likely interview questions
