Hiring managers skim in six seconds, then reread

Hiring managers skim in six seconds, then reread. The first pass is triage, the second is judgment. If the top third of page one fails triage, the second pass never happens, and the detailed history below goes unread.

Triage is a search for disqualifiers. Reviewers look for tech stack alignment, obvious timeline gaps, and clear ownership of outcomes. They do not read for style in this window. They scan for anchors that justify spending two minutes on a deeper pass.

Front-load your profile for the triage window. Place your strongest, most heavily evidenced match where the six-second pass lands, usually in the upper third of the first section. Do not save your best point for the conclusion. If the reviewer stops reading halfway down the page, your conclusion is invisible.

Detail is for the reread. Every bullet point, architecture decision, and scale metric matters, but only after the triage gate is cleared. Structure your documents so the scan catches the core proof immediately, leaving the nuance for the second look.
