Uber Extends ChatGPT Work to More Than 30,000 Staff

Uber is extending ChatGPT Work from a 1,000-person pilot to availability for more than 30,000 employees across its global workforce. OpenAI says the company-wide rollout began Oct. 22, calling it the first deployment of its agentic knowledge-work platform across an entire company. [1]

A larger test than the pilot

The expansion is notable for its reach, but broad access is not the same as demonstrated productivity. OpenAI describes ChatGPT Work as able to research information, prepare meeting briefs, create presentations, analyze data and carry out workflows across applications. It says the service connects with Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar and Slack, and that the rollout includes employee training and Uber’s internal AI skills library. [1]

TechCrunch reports that Uber’s pilot included staff in finance, operations and product, and that about 80% of early adopters were non-engineers, citing Uber’s vice president of engineering. Reported pilot tasks included operational data analysis, localizing training materials and building interactive dashboards. These are examples of use, not independently measured company-wide gains. [2]

The measurement question

OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol will be the default model and that the deployment supports multimodal features including voice and image generation. The company and Uber have not published a financial return or quantified productivity result for the broader rollout. TechCrunch reports that Uber plans to track how employees use the system, which workflows they build and whether it helps them work more effectively. [1] [2]

That makes this a large enterprise test of AI assistance in everyday work rather than a published verdict on its value. The useful evidence to watch will be regular adoption, the kinds of workflows employees delegate, and whether the resulting work can be checked and maintained reliably. [2]
