I don't really fancy the idea of AI resolving bugs or generating code suggestions for me, especially after my first try a few years back, right after ChatGPT launched. The model couldn't get anything correct or reasonable when it came to coding… So, I mean, as a “senior” engineer, I pretty much know my way around things, and for a long time, I believed I didn't need an AI assistant. I even hated the idea. And when I'd see some 'devs' leaning hard into AI-heavy tools, I'd just shake my head at them in pity, lol 😂 (still the case tho, esp. if you're just learning)
But two months ago, I had a change of heart... well, I tried out GitHub Copilot on the Pro plan, starting with my tutorial projects, just to see how it actually works these days. And honestly? It blew me away. Not as a substitute, but as an assistant, especially for my tutorial projects, stuff like scaffolding, state management, or improving written functions.
That's what sparked my latest YouTube vid: "Vibe Coding: Build A Complete App From Scratch In Minutes Using GitHub Copilot." We take a fresh Flutter project and turn it into "Mood Mixer," an app that snaps your selfie, detects your vibe, and mocks up a Spotify playlist based on it. All with zero lines of code from me. Just prompts. (Full disclaimer in the vid: Educational fun only, review and test everything in real work.)
If you're a Flutter dev dipping your toes into AI-assisted builds (or still side-eyeing it like I was), this one's for you. Watch here:
What about you? Have you tried out Copilot or any other AI tools? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
