MU Online has always been a Windows game. If you have a Mac, here is the short path that works today without Wine, CrossOver or a virtual machine: a native macOS client for a classic Season 6 server called Zenaria x40.
Disclosure: I run this server.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported.
- macOS 12 Monterey or later.
- About 1.5 GB of free disk space (the .dmg is around 14 MB, game data is about 1.3 GB and downloads on first launch).
Steps
- Register one account on the website: https://zenaria.ru/?lang=en&utm_source=devto&utm_medium=listing&utm_campaign=x40
- Open the Mac page and download the .dmg: https://zenaria.ru/mac?lang=en&utm_source=devto&utm_medium=listing&utm_campaign=x40
- Drag the app to Applications and start it.
- On the first launch the app downloads the game data, then it updates itself.
- If macOS refuses to open the app (it is not signed with a paid Apple developer certificate yet), go to System Settings -> Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway" once.
- Log in with your account, pick one of the 10 classes and start leveling.
The same account also works in the Windows 10/11 client, so you can play from either computer.
About the server

I would like to hear how the client behaves on different Macs (performance, scaling, Retina). Leave a comment or write in Discord.
