I worked at a call center in college that handled credit cards for a major provider. Call agents were encouraged to keep a piece of paper at their desk to write down credit card numbers to enter them in to the computer to not interrupt the customer reading it out. We were also encouraged to put the papers in the shredder box at the end of the day, but it wasn't highly enforced. I shredded mine, of course.
