Discussion on: How did you do this year with content creation?

I know I covered this on Twitter, but here's an expanded version (but simplified):

  • From January 8th to December 3rd I posted at least once a week (usually only once, but sometimes twice) on my personal blog
  • I have created 25 posts on here since joining in June. Most of these are cross-posts, but there's some content unique to here.
  • I tried to create some YouTube videos, but I couldn't get find software that was easy and intuitive, whilst also being stable on Ubuntu, so I abandoned the project.

Next year, I am going to:

  • double my posts to be twice per week (moving from Wednesday posts to Tuesday and Thursday)
  • Tuesday posts will be specific to GitLab (because I'm somewhat of a fanboy, and want to show off features to others who may be considering it)
  • Thursday posts will be my general tech content posts
  • I am also looking at cross-posting on Medium to see if that brings additional visitors to my site, or can generate me a little bit of side income

I'm in for a busy year, but I am really loving tech again at the moment, so want to share that going forward.

I love this, Gary. Would absolutely be interested in reading a post from you next year (heh) where you explain your system and how you were able to double your output!

"My blogging process" - That's going in the backlog under "Concept". No, really...it's now in my backlog:

Inspiration can come from anywhere

It's a great idea for a blog post

I have a feeling my struggle throughout the year is going to be getting the topics to blog about.

If I stuck to 1 post a week, I have enough ideas to keep me going until September. Because I am splitting "general" and "GitLab features", then I have enough GitLab ideas to keep me going until June.

Whilst I am sorted with written content for January, scheduling that far in advance also means I have to do a lot of shuffling around if something topical but time-relevant comes up. Something else for me to consider.
