OutdoorAI 🌿 — Less Scrolling, More Living

What I Built
OutdoorAI is an AI-powered outdoor adventure planner designed to help people spend less time on screens and more time exploring the world around them.
Users enter their location, available time, preferred activity, and budget. OutdoorAI generates a personalized plan with suggested activities, an estimated budget, preparation tips, safety reminders, and a phone-free challenge.
Why I Built It
It is easy to spend hours looking at a screen while planning things to do outside. I wanted to build a simple tool that makes planning easier and encourages people to step away from their devices.
How It Works
- Frontend: React and Vite
- Backend: Node.js and Express
- AI integration: Google Gemini API
- Input: Location, duration, activity, and budget
- Output: A personalized outdoor adventure plan
What I Learned
Building OutdoorAI helped me practise connecting a frontend to a backend API, handling environment variables, integrating an AI model, and publishing a project on GitHub.
What's Next
I plan to improve the plan formatting, strengthen error handling, and explore open-weight AI models so the project can better support open-source AI use cases.

Note: OutdoorAI currently uses the hosted Google Gemini API. Open-weight model integration is a planned improvement, not a current feature.
