HustleKit AI: An Open-Source AI Business Assistant for Freelancers and Small Businesses โฆ
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle.
What I Built

Meet HustleKit AI โ Less busywork. More business.
HustleKit AI is a web-based business productivity assistant designed for freelancers, student entrepreneurs, online sellers, and small business owners.
Running a small business involves more than delivering a product or service. You also have to write product descriptions, create social media content, communicate with clients, and prepare quotations and invoices. These repetitive tasks can take time away from the actual business.
I wanted to explore how open-weight AI could help simplify these everyday tasks through one lightweight application.
With HustleKit AI, users can:
- โจ Generate product descriptions and selling points.
- ๐ฑ Create social media captions and promotional content.
- ๐ฌ Draft client outreach messages, proposals, follow-ups, and payment reminders.
- ๐งพ Calculate invoice and quotation totals, discounts, and taxes.
- ๐พ Save and manage documents in their browser.
The idea is to make useful business tools accessible to people who may not want to pay for several separate subscriptions.
Who would pay for it?
Freelancers, independent service providers, online sellers, and small businesses that want to save time on repetitive business tasks. Potential future paid features could include custom brand profiles, reusable templates, bulk content generation, and branded business documents.
HustleKit AI is an early-stage project, and real customer demand still needs to be validated.
Demo
๐ Live Demo: Try HustleKit AI
๐ป GitHub Repository: Explore the Source Code
The application is built as a web-based dashboard with separate tools for content generation and business document creation.
The live demo should be tested in a modern browser to verify model loading and generation functionality.
Code

๐ HustleKit AI โ GitHub Repository
The project uses a simple frontend structure:
-
index.htmlโ Application structure and user interface. -
styles.cssโ Styling, responsive layout, and animations. -
app.jsโ Application logic, AI integration, document storage, and invoice calculations.
The project is designed to keep the code understandable and easy to extend as new features are added.
How I Built It
I built HustleKit AI using HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript.
I chose these technologies because I wanted to understand how a practical AI-powered web application could work without introducing a complicated framework or requiring a large backend.
The planned AI architecture uses Transformers.js to load an open-weight language model in the browser.
The application is organized around four main tools:
- Product Writer: Collects product information and prepares a structured prompt for generating product descriptions.
- Social Media Studio: Uses business and campaign details to create promotional content.
- Client Message Writer: Helps prepare professional business communications.
- Invoice & Quotation Maker: Uses JavaScript calculations to generate printable business documents without requiring AI.
The application also uses browser storage to save documents locally.
An important part of this project is separating the AI-powered features from ordinary application logic. Invoice calculations, for example, do not need an LLM. This keeps the application simpler and avoids using AI for tasks that can be handled reliably with normal JavaScript.
The next development priorities are validating the model integration, testing the experience across browsers, improving error handling, and gathering feedback from potential users.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
For a small business tool, AI needs to be useful, affordable, and trustworthy.
Depending entirely on a closed, hosted AI API can introduce recurring usage costs, provider dependency, and additional data-sharing considerations.
An open-weight approach offers a different path.
1. Greater control
Developers can explore different compatible models and choose one that fits their performance, licensing, and hardware requirements.
2. Potentially lower inference costs
When a model runs locally, each generation does not require a separate paid inference API request. The trade-offs include model downloads, device resources, and compatibility.
3. Privacy-focused design
Browser-based inference can keep prompts on the user's device rather than sending them to a third-party AI inference service. This benefit depends on the actual implementation and does not eliminate every network request made by the application.
4. More room to experiment
Open-weight models make it easier to explore specialized prompts, alternative models, and future customization without being tied entirely to one hosted provider.
5. Accessibility for independent builders
A lightweight web application can be a starting point for building affordable tools for freelancers and small businesses without immediately paying for a hosted AI service.
For HustleKit AI, the most interesting possibility is combining local AI generation with ordinary web technologies to create something practical for people running small businesses.
The goal is not simply to add AI everywhere. It is to use AI where it helps and keep the rest of the application straightforward.
My Agent Session
This project was developed with AI-assisted coding and iterative implementation.
I used an AI coding workflow to help structure the application, develop its interface, implement JavaScript functionality, and plan the open-weight AI integration.
I have not included a DevRelay session link because I do not yet have a verified session URL to share.
Prize Categories
This project is intended for the Side Hustle theme, with a focus on open-weight AI and practical productivity tools for small businesses.
I will add any applicable partner prize categories after checking the official challenge requirements and confirming eligibility.
What's Next?
My next goal is to put HustleKit AI in front of real freelancers or small business owners, observe how they use it, and learn which features would genuinely save them time.
I want to understand whether users find enough value in the product to use it regularly or eventually pay for additional features.
Building a prototype is only the beginning. The real test is whether it solves a problem for someone.
Thanks for checking out HustleKit AI! โฆ
