This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle
What I Built
SellCraft AI — Turn Product Details into Professional Listings.
SellCraft AI is an AI-powered product listing studio designed for online sellers, resellers, small businesses, and handmade-product creators.
Writing product titles, descriptions, and SEO keywords for every product can be repetitive and time-consuming. SellCraft AI aims to simplify this process by helping sellers transform basic product information into attractive, professional product listings.
The goal is simple: help small sellers spend less time writing listings and more time growing their businesses.
Key features:
- Generate product titles and descriptions.
- Create SEO-friendly tags and keywords.
- Edit and refine generated content.
- Save drafts and export listings.
- Use a modern, responsive interface.
The project explores how open-source AI can make practical business tools more accessible to independent sellers.

How I Built It
I built SellCraft AI using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to keep the frontend lightweight, responsive, and easy to understand.
For the open-source AI component, the project is designed to use Ollama with Qwen2.5, allowing an open-weight language model to generate product listing content locally.
The intended workflow is straightforward:
- The seller enters basic product information.
- The application prepares a prompt for the language model.
- The local model generates a product title, description, and relevant tags.
- The seller can review, edit, and reuse the output.
Running the model locally avoids the need for a paid, per-request hosted AI API. The exact model and hardware requirements depend on the local setup.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
For a small side hustle, recurring costs and data privacy can make a real difference.
A closed AI API can be convenient, but depending on a third-party service may introduce usage fees, external data processing, and restrictions on model customization.
Open-weight models offer another approach.
With SellCraft AI, the open-source ecosystem makes it possible to explore:
- Privacy: Product information can be processed locally when using a properly configured local inference setup.
- Cost control: There are no per-request hosted-model API charges when inference runs locally, although hardware and electricity still have costs.
- Flexibility: Models can be changed, prompts customized, and future workflows adapted to specific sellers.
- Accessibility: Developers and small businesses can experiment without building their product around a single proprietary AI provider.
Open innovation matters because it gives builders more control over the technology behind their products. Instead of simply consuming an AI service, we can shape the tool around the people who need it.
My Agent Session
This section is optional. I haven't included an agent-session link because I don't have a DevRelay session URL to share.

Final Thoughts
SellCraft AI is my exploration of how open-source AI can help solve everyday business problems.
I want to keep improving it, get feedback from real sellers, and discover which features would genuinely save them time and be worth paying for.
If you're an online seller, small business owner, or developer interested in local AI, I'd love to hear your feedback!
