Polymarket launched Combos — a major product addition that lets traders bundle multiple market outcomes into a single YES/NO position.
Announced by @PolymarketDevs, the feature comes with official documentation and a dedicated quoter channel for market makers.
This is one of the most important structural upgrades for sports trading and multi-outcome strategies on the platform.
What Are Combos?
A Combo is a multi-leg position that combines several underlying market outcomes into one tradable YES or NO instrument.
- Every leg must resolve in the trader’s favor for the Combo YES to pay out
- If any leg fails, the Combo NO side wins
- Combos are identified by derived YES/NO position IDs that sit alongside normal CLOB token IDs
In practical terms, Combos are Polymarket’s version of a user-constructed parlay — but settled on-chain and priced by competing market makers rather than a house book.
Initial rollout focused on sports (moneyline, spreads, totals, and related markets), with expansion to other categories expected over time.
How Pricing Works: Request for Quote (RFQ)
Combos do not use the normal CLOB order book for primary price discovery.
They run through an RFQ auction:
- User creates an unsigned Request for a Combo price
- RFQ system broadcasts the Request to connected market makers
- Market makers submit signed Quotes (typically within a 400 ms window)
- System returns the best Quote to the user
- User accepts by signing within a 10-second acceptance window
- Optional Last Look: market maker confirms or declines within ~1 second
- Trade executes and both sides receive updates
- Confirmed trades are broadcast to connected makers
This design prioritizes competitive quoting and controlled execution over continuous resting liquidity.
Why Combos Matter
For Traders
- Express complex multi-outcome views in a single position
- Higher payout potential when multiple correlated (or independent) legs hit
- Ability to package a narrative (e.g., several sports outcomes) instead of managing many separate tickets
For Market Makers
- New quoting surface with explicit RFQ flow
- Opportunity to earn spread on multi-leg risk
- Collateral Return mechanics help free capital that is no longer needed as legs resolve or offset
For Developers / Bots
- New position types and ID derivation logic
- Strict timing requirements (sub-second quote windows)
- Need for robust RFQ handling, Last Look support, and residual position management
Collateral Return (Capital Efficiency)
Quoting and holding Combos can lock significant pUSD across related legs.
Collateral Return identifies capital that no longer needs to remain locked (because of offsetting or partially resolved exposure) and returns it as usable pUSD while preserving residual risk.
This is critical for market makers running many overlapping Combos. Without it, capital efficiency collapses quickly as inventory grows.
Key Technical Points for Builders
| Topic | Detail |
|---|---|
| Execution model | RFQ, not continuous CLOB matching |
| Quote window | Extremely short (~400 ms) |
| Acceptance window | ~10 seconds |
| Last Look | Optional ~1-second confirmation |
| Position model | Derived YES/NO IDs from legs |
| Capital management | Collateral Return for offsetting exposure |
| Primary launch category | Sports |
Important realities:
- Early exit / cash-out is not guaranteed — it still depends on a maker being willing to quote the other side
- Quoted prices are usually worse than a naive product of the individual leg prices (that gap is the maker’s edge)
- Timing and signing reliability matter more than in normal CLOB trading
Practical Implications
Directional traders gain a new way to express multi-leg views, but must accept RFQ pricing and lower exit flexibility.
Market makers get a new product with clear technical requirements: fast quoting, inventory/risk models across legs, and active use of Collateral Return.
Bot developers should treat Combos as a separate execution venue with its own state machine, latency budget, and position accounting — not as a simple extension of existing CLOB order logic.
Getting Started

- Follow @PolymarketDevs for ongoing changes
Combos expand what is expressible on Polymarket, but they also raise the bar for pricing models, capital management, and execution infrastructure.
The teams that treat the RFQ flow and residual risk carefully will be the ones who can quote and trade this product sustainably.
