What I Built
🌱 Leave-It-Better — Small Actions. Real-World Impact.
What if technology encouraged us to spend less time on screens and more time making a difference in the real world?
Leave-It-Better is an environmental action web application designed to turn good intentions into practical action.
Sometimes, we want to help our surroundings but don't know what we can realistically do with the time and resources we have. Leave-It-Better aims to solve this by helping users find one practical environmental action based on their surroundings, available time, resources, and preferences.
The experience follows four simple steps:
- Choose your situation: Select your environment, available time, materials, and preferred activity.
- Get an action: Receive a recommendation with clear instructions and safety guidance.
- Touch grass: Leave the screen and perform the action in the real world.
- Track your effort: Record completed actions and look back at your progress.
Possible actions include reporting an overflowing bin, reducing single-use waste, caring for an existing plant with permission, or identifying an environmental problem that needs attention.
The goal isn't to create another platform that keeps people scrolling. It's to help them take small, achievable steps toward improving their surroundings.

How I Built It
Leave-It-Better uses React and Vite to build a responsive web interface, CSS for styling, and GitHub Pages for deployment.
The application is designed to help users choose practical environmental actions based on their circumstances, with an emphasis on safety and real-world usefulness.
The goal is to make technology a starting point for action rather than another reason to stay on a screen.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation allows independent developers to experiment with AI for everyday problems and gives others the opportunity to inspect, improve, and extend their work.
For Leave-It-Better, open-weight AI models offer the potential to personalize recommendations, adapt prompts, and explore different approaches to making environmental action more accessible.
My goal is simple: use AI to encourage real-world action, not just more screen time.
