1. The Problem with Generic Rules

Most family screen time rules fail because they're too vague or too strict.

"No more than 2 hours" doesn't tell a 12-year-old what "screen time" means. Does watching a YouTube video count? Reading on a tablet? Video-calling grandma?

And rules like "No screens after 7 PM" ignore reality — what about weekend movies? School projects? Family game nights on tablets?

The rules that work are specific, contextual, and co-created with your kids.
