TikTok image specs look like dozens of numbers, but only three decide whether a creative actually runs: which aspect ratio the placement wants, how heavy the file is, and whether the interface covers the subject. TikTok ad image size figures still centre on 1080 x 1920 (9:16) in 2026, with square and landscape accepted but letterboxed in the feed.
Dimensions and formats across four placements. - In-feed single image: 1080 x 1920 (9:16) recommended, with 1:1 and 16:9 supported, JPG and PNG, and a per file cap commonly listed at 100 MB. - Carousel: every card exported at 1080 x 1920, between 2 and 35 images per set, with the cap applied to each image.
Why creative fails, and it is rarely the pixel count. TikTok is a full-screen vertical feed, so a wrong ratio costs far more than being a few dozen pixels short. Anything other than 9:16 gets black bars top and bottom, the frame looks visibly short as users scroll past, and dwell time and clicks go down together.
How many KB before quality shows it. TikTok re-encodes whatever you give it, so a heavier source means a more visible difference afterwards. A working range for the 1080 x 1920 tier is enough: JPEG between 200 and 400 KB looks identical to the original on a phone, and you can stretch to 500 KB when the frame has large gradients such as sky or heavy background blur.
Safe zones, or the interface eats your subject. TikTok overlays its own chrome: roughly the top 130 pixels hold the status area and top navigation, the bottom 480 pixels stack up the caption, call-to-action button and username, the right 140 pixels carry the like, comment and share column, and the left 60 pixels are where text wraps. The safe move is to keep logos, selling points and any required disclaimer inside the centre band of roughly 1080 x 1310, with captions sitting a little above the vertical centre.
