TripAdvisor vs Google Reviews: Why Your Response Strategy Should Differ
Owners often treat every review platform the same way, copy-pasting one response style everywhere. But the audience reading your reply — not just the reviewer — is different on each platform, and that should change how you write.
Google: Local Searchers, Skimming Fast
Most people reading a Google review response are deciding, right now, whether to visit today. Your reply needs to be short, resolve the concern quickly, and get out of the way — because the next thing they do is close the tab and walk over, or don't.
TripAdvisor: Trip Planners, Reading Ahead
TripAdvisor readers are often planning a trip weeks out, reading through many reviews in one sitting to build an overall impression. A slightly longer, more detailed response works better here — it's being read as part of a research session, not a five-second decision.
The Practical Difference
On Google: "Sorry about the wait Tuesday — we've adjusted staffing for peak hours. Hope you'll give us another shot." Short, resolves it, done.
On TripAdvisor, the same issue can support a fuller response: what happened, what specifically changed, and an invitation — because the reader has the patience and context to actually absorb it.
What Stays the Same
On both platforms, specificity beats generic language, and responding at all beats staying silent. The difference is pacing and depth, not principle.
