The three-year commitment covers Claude tools, API credits, training and technical support for hundreds of US federal research projects.

Anthropic has committed $150 million over three years to Genesis Mission, a US federal initiative intended to accelerate scientific and technological discovery through AI. The company says the funding will make Claude available to researchers at more than 15 participating agencies, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.

Several hundred Genesis Mission research projects are due to receive Claude, Claude Code and API credits. Anthropic also plans to provide scientists with training, onboarding and technical support, while helping agencies that are new to the mission get their first projects running.

The company intends to work with federal agencies and national laboratories on US administration priorities that include fusion energy and quantum computing. The announcement does not identify individual projects, provide a distribution timetable, describe recipient-selection criteria or state the terms under which API credits will be allocated.

The commitment expands a partnership with the US Department of Energy and Genesis Mission that Anthropic announced in December. According to the company, it has since worked with the department to bring Claude to scientists across the national laboratory system. Anthropic presented the new commitment at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit, hosted in Washington by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Anthropic positioned the initiative alongside its other science programs. Earlier in 2026, it launched the Claude Science workbench, opened 10,000 free or discounted Claude seats for academic scientists, expanded its AI for Science credit program and began a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification for AI agents to operate laboratory instruments safely.

This is an expansion of access and implementation support within a specific federal science program, not the launch of a new Claude model. Training and technical assistance could help participating laboratories move beyond isolated trials and incorporate the tools into research workflows. However, Anthropic provides no metrics for assessing scientific outcomes and no criteria for selecting projects. It also does not say whether the $150 million consists of cash, products and services supplied in kind, forgone revenue or some combination, nor does it give a monetary breakdown across access, credits and support. Anthropic is the commercial technology provider and the sole source for the announcement, so its statements about scope and previous deployment have not been independently verified.
