The shared cart saves products across retailers, tracks prices and stock, surfaces promo codes and supports checkout through Google Pay.

Google launched Universal Cart in the United States on October 15, making the shared shopping tool available across Google Search and the Gemini app. It brings products from different retailers into one cart, monitors prices and availability, surfaces relevant promotional codes and helps users choose a payment method before checkout.

Selections persist across Google services. A shopper could save one product through AI Mode in Search, add others in Gemini and later return to the combined list without rebuilding it. Google presents the feature as a more organized alternative to maintaining separate retailer carts, browser tabs and screenshots.

Universal Cart draws on Google’s Shopping Graph, which the company says contains more than 60 billion continually refreshed product listings. That connection allows the cart to send notifications when prices fall or unavailable products return to stock. The announcement does not specify an update interval or provide a complete list of supported retailers.

The cart also combines promotional codes with information about payment-card benefits. Because it is built on Google Wallet, Google says it can understand card perks and help shoppers decide between payment methods. The company does not detail how competing offers are ranked, so the suggestion should not be read as a guarantee of the lowest possible final price.

At participating stores, customers can check out from the cart with Google Pay or transfer their selections to the merchant’s cart and complete the order on its website. Google names Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart and Wayfair among the available examples, alongside many Shopify merchants. The retailer sends the order confirmation, handles customer support and remains the seller of record.

The practical shift is that more of the shopping journey can take place within a common Google layer rather than separate online stores. Centralized lists and alerts may make saved products easier to compare, but fulfillment and post-purchase service still depend on each merchant. The rollout is limited to the US, and Google’s announcement gives no timetable for availability elsewhere.
