CampusBuddy AI

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend

What I Built

I built CampusBuddy AI, an AI-powered college companion designed to make studying easier and more organized.

I built it for a college friend who was having difficulty managing notes, assignments, deadlines, exam preparation, and different study resources.

CampusBuddy AI brings these activities together in one simple dashboard.

It includes:

  • AI Tutor
  • Notes Summarizer
  • Quiz Generator
  • Study Planner
  • Assignment and Task Manager
  • Study Progress Dashboard

The main goal is to help students study smarter, stay organized, and save time.

Demo.

The project is currently available as a live web application.

The project is built using:

  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • JavaScript

How I Built It

I built CampusBuddy AI using HTML, CSS, and Vanilla JavaScript.

The application includes separate sections for the dashboard, AI Tutor, notes, quizzes, study planning, and tasks.

The current MVP uses JavaScript-based demo AI responses. The next stage is to integrate a real open-source AI model, such as Qwen, Llama, or Gemma, through a backend API.

The planned architecture is:

The AI will be used for important parts of the product, including explaining difficult concepts, summarizing notes, generating quizzes, and helping students create personalized study plans.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation is important because it gives developers the freedom to experiment with AI, customize models, and build solutions for specific problems.

For CampusBuddy AI, open-source AI can provide more control over how the AI is used and how the application can be customized for students.

It can also make it possible to:

  • Customize AI responses for education.
  • Experiment with different open-source models.
  • Build personalized learning features.
  • Have more control over data processing.
  • Potentially run AI locally or on self-controlled infrastructure.
  • Improve the project collaboratively through open source.

Instead of building another general-purpose chatbot, I want CampusBuddy AI to become a personalized AI study companion for college students.

My Agent Session

I used AI-assisted development to help design and build CampusBuddy AI.

DevRelay Agent Session: Coming soon

I will add my DevRelay session link here when it is available.

  • Advanced study analytics
  • Student study groups
  • Dark mode

CampusBuddy AI started with one simple idea:

Build something useful for a friend.

I hope it can grow into a useful AI study companion for students everywhere.
