Dimensional Rift is an interactive horror experience that blends the unsettling aesthetics of PS1-era survival horror games with the analog corruption of VHS tapes. This project explores the boundary between digital and analog horror through an innovative "reality-tearing" mechanic.
In this immersive experience, you find yourself trapped between two worlds: a low-poly PS1-inspired environment with its characteristic texture warping and distance fog, and a corrupted VHS realm filled with tracking errors, static, and color distortion. By dragging your cursor (or finger on mobile), you literally tear open rifts between dimensions, allowing elements from one reality to bleed into the other.
As you manipulate these dimensional tears, mysterious entities begin to emerge from the VHS world. These digital apparitions are drawn to your presence, forcing you to strategically open and close rifts to survive. Collect glitch energy from the tears to unleash powerful attacks that temporarily banish these entities back to their realm.
The project features:
Reality-Bending Mechanics: Drag to create dimensional tears that distort the fabric between worlds Dynamic Glitch Effects: Experience over a dozen unique glitch types that respond to your interactions Entity AI: Face mysterious beings that emerge from the VHS dimension with increasingly aggressive behavior Accessibility Options: Reduced motion settings for those sensitive to intense visual effects Nostalgic Aesthetics: Authentic recreation of PS1-era rendering limitations and VHS artifacts Note: This experience is designed to be enjoyed in silence. The absence of sound heightens the sense of isolation and dread as you navigate between dimensions.
