Long time ago I created a small app for SharePoint, this simple app helped me a lot at that time. And I really didn't think about advertising.
But have to say it's hard to find good idea. Finding a good idea is luck. After the success of the first application, I found like-minded people, we created 3 or 4 more applications for SharePoint. They all failed. First one is still alive.
