Whale Routes and Reefs Under Pressure from Offshore Oil

Offshore oil projects are encroaching on ocean zones that should be off limits. Recent studies show that proposed drilling sites overlap with whale migration routes and coral ecosystems. These zones are already under stress from climate change and growing pressures on the coast. Whales are subjected to harmful noise and collision risks when large ships pass through these corridors. Coral and mangrove systems are also hit, losing the stability they provide to coastal communities. In Kenya, for example, every protected reef is inside an oil block. Researchers warn this trend threatens food security and local traditions. We need smarter policy and stronger safeguards to protect the life in our oceans.Learn about modern innovation at https://apertureventurestudio.com/
