PMP Certification Requirements

The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a widely recognized and highly regarded credential for project managers. To obtain the PMP certification, individuals must meet certain requirements set by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the governing body for PMP certification. Here are the key requirements:

Education: Candidates must have a secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's degree, or equivalent) along with at least 5 years of project management experience. Alternatively, candidates with a four-year degree (bachelor's degree or equivalent) need a minimum of 3 years of project management experience.

Project Management Experience: The project management experience should include leading and directing projects. It involves the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities. The experience should be non-overlapping, meaning that you cannot count the same months or years of experience for multiple projects.

Project Management Education: Candidates are required to complete 35 hours of project management education. This requirement can be fulfilled through formal project management training, courses, or programs offered by PMI Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.s) or academic institutions.

PMP Exam: Once the education and experience requirements are met, candidates can apply to take the PMP exam. The exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions and covers various aspects of project management, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and closing. It assesses the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities related to project management.
