What I Built
ListingLift AI — A Local-First AI Listing Generator for Small Businesses
ListingLift AI is a web application designed to help independent sellers, freelancers, and small-business owners create professional product listings without spending hours writing product descriptions.
Many small sellers struggle to create engaging product titles, detailed descriptions, SEO keywords, and social media captions for platforms such as Etsy, Amazon, Instagram Shop, and Shopify.
ListingLift AI simplifies this process. Sellers enter their product name, category, features, preferred writing style, and language. The application generates listing content they can edit, copy, save, and reuse.
Key Features
- AI-powered listing generation: Generate product titles, descriptions, SEO keywords, and social media captions.
- Multilingual support: English, Hindi, and Hinglish options.
- Custom writing styles: Friendly, premium, playful, and practical tones.
- Editable output: Review and customize generated content before publishing.
- Draft management: Save, reopen, and delete drafts directly in the browser.
- Local AI integration: Connect to Ollama and use an open-weight model on your own computer.
- Responsive interface: A modern dark dashboard designed for desktop and mobile screens.
The target customers are independent online sellers, handmade-product creators, Instagram shop owners, and freelancers who want to save time creating product content.
The long-term business opportunity is to offer affordable customization, specialized templates, and productivity tools for small businesses.
Demo
🚀 Live Website: https://mightybeaman95-lgtm.github.io/ListingLift-AI/
The live website lets visitors explore the interface and try the listing-generation workflow.
Note: The GitHub Pages version uses the demo fallback when a local Ollama model is unavailable. Local AI inference requires Ollama to be installed and running on the user's computer.
Code
💻 GitHub Repository: https://github.com/mightybeaman95-lgtm/ListingLift-AI
The project is built with:
- HTML for the application structure
- CSS for styling, responsive layouts, and animations
- Vanilla JavaScript for the interface, content generation workflow, clipboard actions, and local draft storage
- Ollama for connecting to a locally running open-weight language model
The source code is available in the repository.
How I Built It
I built ListingLift AI using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, focusing on creating a simple and useful product for small-business owners.
The interface includes a product information form and a listing studio where users can review and edit generated content. JavaScript manages the generation workflow, copy actions, and browser-based draft storage.
For the AI component, I integrated an optional connection to Ollama, using the qwen2.5:3b model by default. This allows the application to send a structured prompt to a locally running model and receive a JSON response containing the product title, description, keywords, and social caption.
The application also includes a template-based fallback so the interface remains usable without a local AI installation. This fallback is for demonstration purposes and is not a replacement for actual AI inference.
My approach was to make the application accessible to beginners while keeping the architecture simple enough to extend with additional models and features.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation is an important part of ListingLift AI because small businesses should have access to useful AI tools without becoming dependent on expensive hosted APIs.
Using an open-weight model through Ollama creates several opportunities:
1. More control over AI
The model can be changed to suit different product categories, languages, and writing styles. The application is not permanently tied to a single AI provider.
2. Local-first processing
When connected to a locally running model, product details can be processed on the seller's own computer instead of being sent to a hosted AI API. This is valuable for sellers who want greater control over their business information.
3. Lower ongoing API costs
Local inference avoids per-request charges from a hosted AI API. However, it still requires suitable hardware and electricity, and model installation may require an internet connection.
4. More room to experiment
Open-weight models make it easier to experiment with different prompts, models, and specialized workflows. In the future, ListingLift AI could be adapted for particular marketplaces, regional languages, or niche product categories.
5. Less vendor lock-in
The application can evolve as new open-weight models become available, rather than relying entirely on one provider's pricing and service availability.
For this project, open innovation makes it possible to explore a practical AI product that prioritizes user control, flexibility, and affordability.
My First User
I'm looking for independent sellers and small-business owners to test ListingLift AI with their real product descriptions.
My goal is to learn whether it saves them time, whether the generated copy is useful enough to publish after editing, and which features they would value most.
I haven't confirmed a paying customer yet. My next step is to get feedback from a real seller and improve the product based on their experience.
Prize Categories
Primary category: Open-Source AI / Open-Weight Models
ListingLift AI uses an optional local Ollama integration to connect with an open-weight model.
Side Hustle / Practical Business Tool
The project targets a real workflow for independent sellers and explores an affordable product that could be developed into a small business.
I'm excited to keep improving ListingLift AI and explore how open-weight AI can make useful tools more accessible to independent businesses.
