Choosing Your Weapon

Three tools, three tradeoffs:

Zapier is the entry point. Two-step workflows, easiest learning curve, free tier available. If you've never automated anything, start here.

Make (formerly Integromat) is the visual workhorse. Multi-step flows with branching logic, more powerful than Zapier, $9/month to start.

n8n is the developer-friendly option. Open source, self-hostable for free, handles complex pipelines. Graduate here when Zapier stops being enough.

The skill's recommendation: start with Zapier, migrate when you hit walls. Good advice. The worst mistake is over-engineering from day one.

Design Before You Build

Every workflow gets mapped out first using a simple template: trigger, optional conditions, actions (step by step), and error handling. The example workflow for lead capture goes trigger → add to CRM → send welcome email → create follow-up task → Slack notification. Five steps, fully automated, replaces thirty minutes of manual work per lead.

The error handling section is the part most people skip. Don't. When a workflow breaks silently, you end up with missing CRM entries and no way to know why. Route all failures to a Slack channel or dedicated inbox and review weekly.

The ROI Calculation

Not every automation is worth building. The skill includes a payback formula:
