Tools of the Trade

I'm a recent convert of Davinci Resolve and I'm very happy with it as my primary video editor. I used to use Final Cut Studio, Adobe Premiere and Fireworks but no longer since Davinci Resolve is free, more intuitive and just as powerful and rarely crashes.

I record all screen sharing in iShowU Pro which I've been using for I think 10 years and works as great as always.

I will reduce the size of my files videos running them through Handbrake.

Then I convert my videos for MPEG-DASH streaming using MediaConvert and serve my videos via CloudFront and use VideoJS as the video player.

Making Money with Video Content

Making money is a bi-product of wanting to help people. I got to many meet ups and if I have video content that I think aligns thats how I sell my video content. YouTube has been an avoidance or at least I've only think of it as a way to gain social proof and not a money maker.

When an ex-google guy who makes programming video content on youtube in my neck of the woods has 500K subscriptions but says on Linked In he's looking for part time work, to me YouTube feels like not a great place to make money.

I'm not motivated to make money but understand money it is a vehicle to deliver more higher quality content and accessible content and so I produce both paid and free content.
