What I Built
Smallholder farmers across Africa face unpredictable climate conditions, poor access to real-time agronomic data, and limited market and financial inclusion. We were inspired by the need to shift farmers from reactive decision-making to predictive, data-driven agriculture, enabling them to adapt, grow, and thrive despite climate and market uncertainties.
Nimiro AI is an agricultural intelligence platform that combines IoT soil sensors, geospatial data, and predictive analytics to support precision farming. It provides real-time insights on soil health, climate patterns, and crop performance, while also offering market intelligence to connect farmers to buyers. Additionally, it generates data-driven credit scores, enabling farmers to access loans and insurance.

Nimiro comes from the Uganda word farm, meaning land. The land is the farmer’s foundation, and Nimiro AI is built to protect it, understand it, and turn its data into real economic power.
This platform brings climate intelligence, market forecasting, and inclusive finance into one practical tool that any smallholder farmer can use.
What Nimiro AI Does
Nimiro AI starts on the farm. Each farmer receives a Climate Smart Agric Kit that captures real-time soil conditions, weather signals, and environmental stress. The system then builds a complete, verifiable risk profile of the farm.
With that foundation, Nimiro AI moves into prediction. The platform analyzes climate patterns, market trends, and yield history to forecast prices and sales paths for specific crops in specific counties. A tomato farmer in Nakuru can predict market behavior before harvest and choose the…
How I Built It
We integrated IoT soil sensors to capture real-time soil nutrients and moisture data, combined with satellite and geospatial datasets for climate and crop analysis. Our AI models process this data to generate actionable farming insights. We built a mobile dashboard, SMS-based access for feature phones, and an AI voice agent with multilingual support. We also leveraged tools like Opik to monitor, evaluate, and improve our AI system’s performance and reliability.
We integrated Google Gemini as the core intelligence layer of Nimiro AI to power both generative insights and user interactions.
On the system side, Gemini processes soil sensor data, geospatial inputs, and climate signals to generate personalized, easy-to-understand farming recommendations—translating complex analytics into actionable guidance for farmers.
On the USSD/mobile interface, Gemini enables lightweight generative responses, allowing farmers to query in simple text and receive instant advice, market insights, or crop guidance—even on basic devices.
This dual use ensures that advanced AI capabilities are delivered in a simple, accessible, and localized way, bridging the gap between complex data and everyday farming decisions.
