WildSense: Find Your Outside Building an Open-Source Nature Exploration Experience

WildSense: Find Your Outside — An Open-Source Project Making Nature Exploration Interactive

What I Built

WildSense — Find Your Outside is a web project built around a simple idea: use technology to encourage people to spend less time on screens and reconnect with the natural world.

The project aims to make outdoor exploration more approachable through an interactive digital experience that inspires people to step outside, observe their surroundings, and discover nature.

Rather than making technology the destination, WildSense uses it as a starting point for real-world exploration.

The Inspiration

Technology connects us to an enormous amount of information, but it can also keep our attention indoors and on screens.

I wanted to explore a different idea: What if a website encouraged people to close their laptops and explore the world around them?

That question became the starting point for WildSense.

How It Was Built

WildSense is a web development project hosted on GitHub Pages. Its source code is publicly available so other developers can explore the implementation and contribute improvements.

The project is intended to grow through experimentation, community feedback, and new ideas for making outdoor discovery more engaging.

Why Open Source?

Open source makes it possible for people to learn from a project, suggest improvements, contribute code, and build upon an existing idea.

I hope WildSense can evolve through contributions that make nature exploration more accessible, educational, and enjoyable.

What's Next?

I would like to continue expanding WildSense with more nature-discovery activities, educational resources, and features that help people document their outdoor experiences.

The long-term goal is to make the website a useful companion for discovering nature—not another reason to stay glued to a screen.

Try It Yourself

Feedback and contributions are welcome!
