The Real Signal in HackerTube Is Control — And It Applies to How You See
Hacker News just did to YouTube what it has been doing to the front page for years: HackerTube — a YouTube built entirely from videos recommended by the HN community — hit #2 on Hacker News with 1,431 points and 387 comments (https://karpathy.bearblog.dev/hacker-tube/).
Read past the launch-day enthusiasm and the signal isn't "curation is back." It's that people want to reclaim control of what they watch and why they watch it. Attention stops being something that happens to you and becomes something you direct. For those of us who build software, that's a familiar pattern: the same shift that moved users off algorithmic feeds and onto self-hosted readers, RSS, and curated lists.
That instinct is exactly what we built around at Seven Sports.
Amblyotube is a Meta Quest app for visual coordination and attention exercises. Rather than abstract clinical tests, it uses YouTube-style content you already want to watch and turns it into an active vision gym. While you watch, each eye receives a different visual experience: the dominant eye gets a gentle, adjustable digital blur via the Dominant Eye Shader — tunable across blur, contrast, brightness, gamma, or opacity, and functioning as full digital patching at 100% opacity. The lazy eye gets an AI Lazy Eye Sharpener (MFBF mode) that detects human figures and locks onto them with a bold outline and a controlled pulsing flicker. An optional Wedge Occlusion blacks out part of each eye's view so each eye sees unique portions of the scene, reducing binocular rivalry. A magenta focus cue in the lazy eye's view — paired with a subtle grey dot in the dominant eye — prompts the brain to fuse both images into one 3D picture.
Setup is deliberate: you select which eye is affected, choose a condition preset (Mild / Moderate / Severe), and an integrated LogMAR check with Landolt C optotypes can auto-tune the therapy profile. No adhesive patches. No red-blue glasses. 30–40 minutes a day, capped at 1 hour, with content you'd have watched anyway.
If HackerTube is a reminder that you can choose your feed, Amblyotube is a reminder that you can also train how you see it.
