Standard OpenTimestamps Files Are Supported Too
The verifier is not limited to Beaver Proof packages.
You can also drop any original file together with its corresponding .ots file onto the app.
Beaver Proof Verifier calculates the file hash locally and checks whether the OpenTimestamps proof belongs to that exact file.
If even a single byte has changed, the verification will fail.
This makes the app useful for documents, contracts, images, source archives, exported data, project files, and many other digital records.
Your Files Stay on Your Mac
The original document does not need to be uploaded for verification.
Its cryptographic hash is calculated locally on the Mac. This hash acts like a unique fingerprint of the file without revealing its contents.
OpenTimestamps uses that fingerprint as part of a larger cryptographic structure that is eventually anchored in the Bitcoin blockchain.
The blockchain does not contain your document. It does not contain the filename, the text, or a copy of the proof package. It only provides an independently verifiable timestamp anchor.
Why Bitcoin Confirmation Takes Time
An OpenTimestamps proof may initially appear as pending.
This is normal.
Many timestamp requests are combined into a Merkle tree before a compact commitment is anchored in a Bitcoin transaction. The transaction must then be included in a Bitcoin block.
Depending on timing and network conditions, final confirmation can take a few hours.
Once confirmed, the proof no longer depends on a Beaver server or a proprietary certificate database. It can be checked independently against the public Bitcoin blockchain.
No Certificate Server Required
Traditional verification systems often depend on a central provider.
If that provider closes, discontinues the service, changes its business model, or loses its database, verification may become difficult or impossible.
The Beaver Proof workflow avoids operating its own permanent certificate server.
OpenTimestamps provides the protocol, while Bitcoin provides the long-term public timestamp anchor. Beaver Proof Verifier provides the practical interface that makes the result understandable.
What the Verification Proves
A successful verification demonstrates two important facts:
- The supplied file matches the cryptographic proof.
- The file’s fingerprint existed no later than the confirmed blockchain timestamp. It does not automatically prove who created the file, whether its contents are factually correct, or whether it will be accepted as legal evidence in a particular jurisdiction.
That distinction matters. Beaver Proof Verifier reports what cryptography can actually demonstrate without making exaggerated legal promises.
