How to Get Book Reviews on Goodreads in 2026

Goodreads has over 150 million members. For indie authors, it is one of the few places where readers actively hunt for their next read and leave detailed reviews that drive real purchasing decisions.

Use a Goodreads Giveaway Before Launch

Run a 10-copy ebook giveaway for 30 days before your launch. Winners review at a 50 to 70 percent rate, and every person who enters adds your book to their Want to Read shelf. That shelf placement appears in friends feeds and drives organic discovery for months.

Join Genre-Specific Goodreads Groups

While your giveaway runs, join 3 to 5 groups in your genre. Many have R4R (Read for Review) threads. Engage genuinely for 2 to 3 weeks before posting anything promotional.

Build an ARC Team for Both Platforms

Recruit readers who will review on both Goodreads and Amazon. Be explicit about the dual-platform expectation upfront. Goodreads and Amazon have separate review systems, but Goodreads discovery drives eventual Amazon purchases.
