If you don't mind paying for InMail, I think it can work.
Anything to reduce the competition helps.
Remote's always harder because there're way fewer jobs.
But they're more hidden. Freelance working usually isn't posted for example. So you'll have to dig around.
Building an online presence for yourself also helps with finding warm leads.

I found Coders Rank to be very useful since you can integrate your github or gitlab or Linkedin profile and let companies finds you.
