This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle
What I Built
HustleCraft AI — Your AI-Powered Business Content Assistant

Small businesses, freelancers, and independent creators often spend hours writing product descriptions, social media captions, advertisements, and customer replies. Hiring a copywriter can be expensive, while creating everything manually takes time away from growing the business.
HustleCraft AI is a lightweight web application designed to make content creation faster and more accessible.
With HustleCraft AI, users can:
- 🛍️ Generate product listings and descriptions.
- 📱 Create social media captions, hashtags, and calls to action.
- 💬 Draft professional customer replies.
- 📢 Write short promotional advertisements.
- 📋 Copy and download generated content for later use.
- 🔌 Connect to a locally hosted, OpenAI-compatible model endpoint.
The goal is simple: help small businesses spend less time writing and more time selling.
The potential users include small business owners, freelancers, e-commerce sellers, and content creators.

The project is organized into three main frontend files:
-
index.html— application structure and interface. -
style.css— responsive styling and visual design. -
script.js— content-generation logic, settings, and user interactions.
The repository also includes a README with setup instructions and project documentation.
How I Built It
I built HustleCraft AI using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, keeping the interface lightweight and easy to run in a browser.
The application uses a dashboard-style layout with separate tools for product listings, social media captions, advertisements, and customer replies.
A key design decision was to make the AI connection configurable instead of tying the application to a single paid provider.
The app can connect to a locally hosted, OpenAI-compatible chat completions endpoint, such as one provided by LM Studio, using a compatible open-weight model.
This makes it possible to experiment with models such as Qwen or Llama without hard-coding a commercial AI API into the application.
The project also includes a template-based demo mode so users can explore the interface without configuring a model first. The template-based mode is a fallback, not actual AI inference. To demonstrate the open-source AI aspect, the application should be connected to and tested with a real compatible open-weight model.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation gives developers and small businesses more control over the tools they use.
For a project like HustleCraft AI, open-weight models and local inference offer several advantages:
- More control: Users can choose compatible models based on their needs.
- Privacy potential: Local inference can keep business prompts and data on the user's machine, depending on the setup.
- Lower barriers to entry: Users can experiment without relying on a paid commercial API.
- Customization: Developers can adapt prompts, change models, and improve the application as their requirements evolve.
- Less vendor lock-in: A configurable endpoint makes it easier to switch between compatible model providers.
A small business should not need a large budget to start exploring AI-powered tools. Open innovation helps make experimentation and customization more accessible.
Prize Categories
Primary challenge: Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge — Week 2: Side Hustle.
The project focuses on practical AI assistance for small businesses and independent creators, with an emphasis on configurable open-weight models and local inference.
What's Next?
I would like to improve HustleCraft AI by adding:
- A model-connection health check.
- Better prompt templates for different business types.
- Saved content history and reusable brand profiles.
- Testing with multiple open-weight models.
- A deployed demo so users can try the application more easily.
Building this project helped me explore how a simple web application can become more useful when paired with open AI models.
Built with curiosity, open-source technology, and the goal of making AI more accessible.
