I've been working on Ice Theme for almost two years now.
It started as a small VS Code theme, and somehow turned into one of those projects I keep coming back to.
The theme has changed quite a bit over the years.
The website, not so much.
A lot of the initial traction actually came from Reddit. I shared Ice Theme there, and the response was much better than I expected.
People tried it, gave me feedback, shared it with others, and some even told me they had been using it for months.
That honestly meant a lot to me.
There's something pretty cool about making something by yourself, putting it on the internet, and then seeing people you've never met actually use it.
It also made me want to keep improving the theme.
The website started to feel behind
The website worked, but every time I looked at it, I felt like it didn't really represent the project anymore.
So I finally decided to redesign it.
I wanted the new site to feel like Ice Theme itself.
Calm, minimal, and something you could spend a little time looking at without feeling overwhelmed.
I didn't want to turn it into another flashy developer landing page. I mostly wanted to give the theme some room to breathe and let the product speak for itself.
Of course, that somehow turned into spending way too many hours tweaking things that most people will probably never notice.
The spacing was off.
The colors weren't quite right.
Then I'd notice something else.
You know how it goes.
But that's also what I enjoy about building things.
Sometimes the difference between "this is fine" and "I actually like this" is a ridiculous number of small decisions.
It finally feels like Ice Theme
After almost two years of working on Ice Theme, I'm pretty happy that the website finally feels like it belongs to the project.
