Built with Google Gemini: Writing Challenge

This is a submission for the Built with Google Gemini: Writing Challenge

What I Built with Google Gemini

On Saturday, February 28th, 2026, I (Abdulazeez Yunusa)was at an event at the American University of Nigeria Yola, organized by Google Developers Group (GDG) Yola x Global AI Yola. The Workshop was a hands-on practical tutorial on how to use google Gemini and google AI studio to build website. I was able to tutor tens of young individuals on how to build a website or blog styled web using google Gemini and google AI studio. See pictures live from event:

Demo

I used the GDG Women Tech Leader's(Zahra Idries) PC and online resources to demonstrate the project.

  1. We used Gemini to create the right prompt for the app, this helped participants in creating a professional prompt to use thereby, bypassing all technical web-dev terminologies.
  2. Then copied the prompt and paste on Google AI Studio. After generating preferred style of website, we finetuned to our liking. but google cloud was down at the moment so.
  3. We proceeded with "how to create a GitHub account" and to push the vibe-coded project directly by using the SHARE button on the google AI studio platform, to link directly to the newly signed-in GitHub account.
  4. Since the cloud was down at that moment, we used vercel.com, signed up, then linked the newly pushed GitHub project to vercel then host free.

Key Takeaways and Lesson Learned.

At first, I was a bit shy because, I wasn't a good presenter, given I came 3rd place in my previous physical Hackathon competition with 3MTT Nigeria Adamawa state (State level Hackathon). Tech for good pitch. I had a decent project, but I only cared about showing the audience "how it works and why it is so important". It still felt like a loss because the group that came second was my team member who left my team to go create another team 6 hours before the event. Turns out, he only stuck around to gather information while he's busy working on his own mobile frontend UI design, the team that won had no project, they used my idea and a fictional project on GitHub that does even exist because none of them had a GitHub account. (It feels like a therapy relief to type all these.) I couldn't make up the tractions, monetary value, etc. But the first team did just that, hence they were handed the winner trophy.

However, I was often remarked as an exceptional tutor because everyone was able to build something that day either on PC or on phone.
So, it was a success for me, speaking clear to articulate message as well as getting relatable metaphors to describe features on the platform for simpler understanding was one of the things that helped me with the audience.

Google Gemini Feedback

The Google AI studio does not accept SVGs, Uploaded Images or Short videos for animated visuals on website (on project src/image folder. Perhaps only image links) of which time was not on my side). Also, while trying to push to cloud, we noticed google cloud was down, so we had to use vercel. It might likely display but it won't appear on hosted page.
