Playing games has gotten a little stale for me and I needed something to keep my mind busy as I go about my day looking after an eight week old and a three year old. This idea came to me when I was watching cartoons with my three year old son. There's an annoying youtube video in which a snake starts eating everything. I was still partially thinking about work, medical NLP stuffs. So I thought about a snake that ate letters and did stuffs.
๐ What I Did
Quick bullet list of work:
- Drafted up a design document using gpt for some back and forth and idea expansion
- Implemented basic MVP using cursor free - snake controller, tile spawner
- Did some basic art assets
- Signed up to cursor pro for gemini 2.5 pro, by far my favourite llm to code with
- Warmed up to unity, it's been several years
๐ค Thoughts & Challenges
- Just unity, it's fiddly when you're rusty
๐ฎ Whatโs Next
- Resolve all current bugs, tiles are overlapping on the body, they're all black.
- Sort out rotation of my new snake face.
- Overhaul the basic game to use a scrabble board and spawn tiles on the spaces
- Get some initial sound effects
- Implement game over panel
- Implement splash screen

I'm really proud of this, despite it being so basic. I think it conveys a minimalist snakes face that ties into the theme of letters
