Peter Schmeichel, who played for Manchester United in the past, has spoken ill of winger Antony.
"Schmeichel, a former goalkeeper from Manchester United, criticized Antony for his performance against Nottingham Forest," the sports media "Goalcom" reported on the 2nd.
Antony left Ajax in the summer of 2022 and joined the Manchester United team. Manchester United invested a huge amount of 95 million euros (about 136.7 billion won) in signing Antony. The transfer could be made as Erik ten Haach strongly aspired to sign Antony, his student during the Ajax era.
Contrary to expectations, Antony has not been able to blend into Manchester United. Last season, Antony had only eight goals and three assists in 44 games throughout all competitions. He is not getting any better this season, either. In the 2023/24 season, Antony appeared in 21 games but failed to raise a single point on offense.
Antony was also powerless in the 20th round of the EPL against Nottingham Forest on the 31st. He formed a three-top with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, but failed to make an impression. Antony was replaced by Ahmad Diallo in the 9th minute of the second half. Manchester United lost to Nottingham 1-2 after a rough game.
Schmeichel didn't hold back his anger at Antony's performance. "I think coach Ten Haq should think twice about Antony's position. He doesn't contribute much to the team. He frustrates his teammates. I'm really disappointed," Schmeichel told South African broadcaster Super Sports.
"Antoni has had a long chance, but he has not scored a goal this season. Antoni has neither assisted nor scored a goal. He does not seem to fully understand the game," Schmeichel added.
