I definitely wouldn't say "you suck" looking at your redesign. 2 weeks is on the short-end of that sort of effort imo (I spent months on-and-off in a mockup tool before starting 😁). The end result is nice and minimal with a solid choice of fonts and spacing 👍
If you're looking for a generalized approach to nailing down a design, I highly recommend Adam Wathan and Steve Schoger's work. I still reference this post years later; it has some evergreen tips to design that any developer could implement. Really, it's all about getting the ratios right, not some sort of innate gift of creativity 😁
