Would that be enough for you to open and offer your product or service to the consumers? Richard Bishara believes that it won’t be. There are still too many things for you to assess before you can figure out if your business idea is viable or not. One of them is identifying your strengths and weaknesses.

Tips in Identifying Your Strengths and Weaknesses as an Entrepreneur

Getting to know your weaknesses and strengths should not simply be an exercise that will make you feel good about yourself. Richard Bishara believes that it is a procedure that will help you understand how to become a more productive and effective business manager. You will also learn things that require improvement to be a successful entrepreneur.

Developing a List

Since you may have a lot of skills, we will only create a list that focuses on the skills that you need to grow your business. It will simply be an overview of the skills like website development, customer support skills, product expertise, understanding of the market, business development, etc. After you complete the first list, highlight some of the skills that you possess. Place a mark on the things that need improvement. Set it aside and create another list with two columns; this will include your weaknesses and strengths. Avoid overestimating yourself and do not be too hard on your flaws. You are also not required to make it as comprehensive as possible. Treat this as a rough draft. It may be enough to add 15 on each column. Try to assess your personality and technical skills.

Talk to People Whom You Can Trust

When you are creating your list of strengths and weaknesses, Richard Bishara fears that you may have this biased opinion about yourself. Some people will think too little of themselves while others will think too highly of themselves. You may need to seek the help of someone to refine a clearer and closer-to-the-truth list. Think about at least five people whom you can easily approach. This person should’ve worked or stayed with you for a long time. You and this person must be involved in certain situations that allow them to observe your situations. They can be your best friends, family members, colleagues, or mentors. Once you receive their feedback, you can now build a more comprehensive list.

Taking a Test

Another way to gauge your strengths and weaknesses more accurately is by taking tests as suggested by Richard Bishara. There are different personality tests available such as the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). Most people consider MBTI as the gold standard for testing a person’s corporate personality. The test will cover four different areas; your method of approaching your outside world, ability to take and retain information, decision-making capacity, and your introvert/extrovert nature. DISC is another personality-test that offers a full assessment of your personality.

After you have identified your strengths and weaknesses as an entrepreneur, you can now evaluate the things that require some attention. Some of your strengths will highlight your full potential, while others may require further development. On the weakness list, some will be more obvious, which needs to be addressed immediately.
