Vietnam is one of the highest crypto-adoption countries in the world — crypto here is everyday infrastructure for savings, remittances and gaming (Axie Infinity was built in Vietnam). But the rules are still a grey zone, so picking where to trade matters. Here's the honest local picture for 2026.
The short version
For most Vietnamese users, Binance is the most-used exchange, mainly through its P2P market — you buy and sell with VND by paying a verified seller via VietQR, bank transfer or e-wallet, with the platform holding the crypto in escrow until payment clears. It has the lowest fees and widest coin selection.
By use case:
- Derivatives / copy trading: Bybit (also has VND P2P).
- Altcoins / trading bots: KuCoin; MEXC for early listings and light KYC on small amounts.
- VND-native local apps: BitcoinVN, VBTC, Remitano — smaller and less liquid, but built around dong.
The legal grey zone
Crypto is not legal tender or an official payment method in Vietnam, and a full regulatory framework is still taking shape in 2026. Holding and trading are widespread and not generally banned, but there's limited consumer protection if something goes wrong. Practical advice: use platforms with escrow, keep records, follow current rules, and don't leave large balances on any exchange.
Then self-custody
Vietnam's grey-zone status means limited recourse if a platform fails. Buy on the exchange, then withdraw meaningful holdings to a hardware wallet you control (Ledger or Trezor). Many Vietnamese already self-custody from the play-to-earn days, so it's a familiar step. The exchange is the shop; the hardware wallet is the vault.
