Hook Every Viewer With the Logic Gap Copywriting Framework

Your viewers' brains are lazy. That’s not an insult—it’s neuroscience. The moment a tech review feels predictable, viewers click away.

If you want to skyrocket your watch time, stop giving away the plot in your intro. Instead, use the Logic Gap framework.

A Logic Gap creates a jarring contradiction between an accepted tech truth and an impossible-sounding reality. Human brains hate unresolved loops. When you introduce a gap in logic, the brain forces the viewer to keep watching just to solve the puzzle.

The formula is simple:
[Accepted Tech Premise] + [Paradoxical Result] = Instant Retention

Look at the difference in these hooks:

  • Standard Hook: "Today we’re reviewing the new $2,000 OLED monitor to see if the colors are as good as they claim."
  • Logic Gap Hook: "This new $2,000 OLED monitor has the absolute best panel on the market... and I’m returning it tomorrow."

Wait. Why return the best display? The viewer's brain freaks out. It needs the missing logic.

Here’s an example for software and coding channels:

  • Standard Hook: "AI coding assistants are getting really fast, so here is a test of Cursor."
  • Logic Gap Hook: "I let an AI write my entire codebase in 10 minutes, and it made my senior engineer completely useless."

To execute a Logic Gap in your next script:

  1. Find the baseline expectation: What does everyone assume about this gadget, chip, or app?
  2. Inject the paradox: State a true, conflicting outcome in your first 10 seconds.
  3. Withhold the bridge: Don't explain why the paradox exists until later in the video.

Ditch the cinematic B-roll intros and spec-sheet readings. Build a Logic Gap, shatter expectations early, and make your audience stick around for the answer.
