Platform: The following platforms and applications will be utilized

Operating System: Windows
VPN Platform: FortiClient

Ticketing System: ServiceNow (for escalation)

Intro

This article is a guided, multi-step approach for setting up a Work from Home Environment using software and equipment provided by Turing Insurance. This guide is designed to help you get connected quickly and safely from home during inclement weather. It will cover connecting the laptop to local wifi, basic router troubleshooting steps, and connecting to VPN. Paper copies of this document will be provided to users.

Who is this for?

This article is written with non-technical Turing Insurance staff in mind. They will require a company issued laptop that has FortiClient, as well as a strong wifi connection (100 Mbps download and 10Mbps upload) at their location of choice.

A note on international locations

If you are operating from outside the United States, you are required by company policy to submit an 'International Travel' request in ServiceNow. This must be submitted by the user intending to travel.

Setting up wifi on laptop.

Note: If you are having trouble setting up wifi on your home network, please refer to the troubleshooting steps below this section

  1. Press the Power button on the upper right-hand corner of your keyboard to turn your laptop on

  2. Log into your laptop with your company credentials

  3. Look to the lower left-hand corner of your desktop, and type, 'wifi settings' into the search bar on your taskbar. This will make a search window appear

  4. Press Enter when you see Wifi Settings appear in the search window.

  5. In the Network & internet > Wi-Fi window ensure that 'Wi-Fi' has been set to On

  6. Click 'Show available networks' next. Look for your home wifi network

  7. Select the network and then click Connect

  8. Enter your wifi password in the 'Enter the network security key' box and click Next

  9. Wait for a moment, and you should see a message saying Connected, Secured in the window.

Troubleshooting home router

  1. Ensure all cables leading to the router are plugged in firmly into the device

  2. Disconnect the router from power for one minute. After a minute, reconnect power

  3. Wait. Your router will likely need a few minutes to fully reconnect your devices. Look to the lights on the device. While models vary, in general: a solid amber or red light means it is trying to connect. Solid or blinking blue or green means it has connected and is transmitting.

  4. Follow the steps above to try and connect to wifi again.

  5. If at this point it fails, please consult the technical support desk of your Internet Service Provider. We have provided the numbers of a few ISPs below:

Xfinity
1-800-934-6489

Cox Cable
1-800-234-3993

Verizon
1-888-315-3762

Turning on VPN

To access VPN, please do the following

  1. Look to the lower left-hand corner of your desktop, and type, 'forticlient' into the search bar on your taskbar. This will make a search window appear

  2. Press Enter when you see Forticlient appear in the search window.

  3. In the app, select 'Remote Access' and then select the city nearest to you (East Orange or Yonkers) and then press Connect

  4. You will be prompted with a number to enter into your MFA app. Follow the prompts on your phone. VPN can take up to thirty seconds to fully activate.

Escalation

Note: Please escalate only after completing all of the steps listed above
