In here sri lanka, some reputated well established companies ask for your previous company salary slip also. some companies after you say the salary, they call your current company to confirm that. i don't know is it legal here or not.
Normally what i do is i tell a salary which is 30%-40% more than my current salary and ask for 30%-40% more salary. Then you have a great chance of getting 50% more than your current salary.but this will reduce when you go to top positions in your carrer.
