šŸš€ My First Experience with Google Cloud (As a Student)

This is a submission for the Google Cloud NEXT Writing Challengeļæ¼.

🌱 Why I Decided to Try It

I’ve been hearing a lot about cloud computing in my classes, but honestly, it all felt a bit abstract. So I thought—why not actually try it myself instead of just reading about it?

That’s how I ended up exploring Google Cloud.

āš™ļø What I Actually Did

I didn’t do anything too advanced. I just wanted to understand the basics:

  • Created a virtual machine using Compute Engine
  • Uploaded some files to Cloud Storage
  • Tried hosting a simple web page

Even though it was basic, it felt exciting to see something I set up actually running online.

šŸ˜… What Confused Me

Not everything was smooth:

  • The IAM permissions were a bit confusing at first
  • There are so many services—it’s easy to feel lost
  • I had to double-check the billing section (just to be safe!)

āø»

šŸ’” What I Liked

  • The interface is clean and not too overwhelming
  • Documentation actually helped (which is rare šŸ˜„)
  • It feels powerful, even for beginners

🧠 What I Realized

Before this, I thought cloud computing was complicated and only for experts. But after trying it, I realized:

You don’t need to know everything—you just need to start.

šŸ”® What I Want to Try Next

Now that I’ve started, I’m curious about:

  • BigQuery (for working with data)
  • AI tools like Vertex AI

šŸ Final Thoughts

If you’re a student like me and unsure where to begin—just try it. Don’t wait until you ā€œfeel ready.ā€

You’ll figure things out along the way.
