Automating TSS Declarations Without Losing Compliance Control

Automation only pays off with the right defaults

Automation on TSS work only pays off if it respects each declaration's rules. The five declaration types tolerate very different levels of hands-off processing.

High-automation candidates

IMMI submissions for repeat, non-Category 1 SKUs sit at the top. UKIMS status is stable, commodity codes auto-populate for regular products, and the data set is reduced. Automation here scales cleanly.

The eligibility logic behind that decision lives in this complete TSS declaration walkthrough.

Automation with a human gate

Supplementary declarations should auto-draft but never auto-submit. Auto-generated fields need trader review before the 10th-of-month cut-off. This is the single most common automation failure we see.

Automate the calendar, not the content

Schedule the 10th-of-month deadline as a hard event with owner-level escalation. Automate reminders on days 3, 5 and 8 for open supplementary declarations.

Human-only

At-risk determination on borderline goods, Category 1 classification and Full Frontier duty payments benefit from expert judgement.

The result

Automation done right shortens the monthly close without breaking the audit trail.
