I think you make some good points, but I think there's also a bit of a danger here.

We live in a society where quitting as soon as the novelty and "fun" wears off of anything. People throw away relationships, even marriages, as soon as things get a little difficult. Young developers hop from project to project, stopping as soon as they hit the first roadblock. And it's all in the name of "I want to be happy!" I'm not talking about major things: I'm talking about normal speedbumps.

None of us can work at Shangri-La Corp, where everyone is perfect, and problems don't exist.

There does have to be a balance, which I think you tried to allude to, but were a bit too subtle about (as least as far as I read).

Quitting just because work requires some mental effort or personal growth is lazy, self-defeating, and a recipe for a disastrous life. Any good job will challenge you regularly, in healthy ways which are necessary for our mental health. In fact, a job which never challenges you, and provides no immediate pathway to find said challenges, is a job you probably should quit.

Yet in a society where emotions are idolized above all else, those healthy challenges are too often eschewed because "it doesn't feel good".

So, I think there are two questions to be asked of oneself before quitting the job:

  1. Am I being challenged in healthy ways here? (This can include learning technical skills, improving time management habits, improving interpersonal communication or conflict resolution skills.)

  2. Am I able to pursue my passions in my present role, either (a) through the job itself or, (b) outside of the job, with the resources I have in that context?

If you answer "no" to either question, then yes, you're right: you should probably quit. But if you're answering YES to both, then you should almost definitely stay! Leaving would actively deprive you either of healthy growth opportunities or opportunities/resources to pursue your passions.
