Dubai Municipality just added a new data point to a build-out that has been running for a while inside Mushrif National Park: a 102 metre bike and pedestrian bridge, part of a 182 metre crossing, with two marked lanes so cyclists and walkers stop sharing the same strip of tarmac at the park's busiest junction with the internal roads.
On its own that is a small structure. What makes it worth logging is the series it belongs to. Each of these has been announced separately by the municipality, but they are the same underlying project measured at different points in time.
The numbers so far
The trail network is roughly 50 kilometres of mountain bike track, graded green, blue and red. There is a walking trail close to 10 kilometres long. Sections carry lighting so they stay usable after dark. A base facility, Mushrif Hub, sits at the entrance and is where this bridge's route starts. Bader Anwahi, chief executive of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, described the effect of the bridge as removing the one break in an otherwise continuous trail.
For anyone tracking public infrastructure spend as a leading indicator, this is a clean series to watch: distinct announcements, each with a figure attached, all pointing at one venue. If you are correlating capital works with villa demand in east Dubai districts like Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej, this bridge is simply the latest entry.
